The New Ford Capri- it’s Back!

The Ford Capri is back but with a whole new look!

Guess what's back on the road? The Ford Capri! But hold your classic car expectations— it's now an all-electric SUV with a whole new look.

After 37 years, the Ford Capri has returned, sparking debate with its radically different redesign that diverges from its iconic predecessor. Ford has completely overhauled its appearance, moving away from tradition to embrace a modern aesthetic. This revival marks a significant moment for enthusiasts and critics alike as the beloved classic evolves for a new era.

The Ford Capri was originally released back in 1969 in Europe as Europe's equivalent of the Mustang. It quickly gained popularity and became an iconic car. Initially sold as a fun, fast, and affordable car, the Capri was a challenging model to surpass, with over 1.9 million units sold during its production years Production ceased in 1986, after which it remained a cherished classic. Now, Ford has revived the Capri as an electric coupe SUV.

It's hailed as a sports car soul wrapped in a practical SUV package—a coupé crossover boasting advanced technology. Available in two distinctive trim levels: Select and Premium.

Unlike the old Capri, which was powered by Ford’s iconic Essex V6 engine, the new electric Ford Capri offers a choice between a single-motor Extended Range RWD variant producing 282bhp, or a twin-motor Extended Range AWD version with 335bhp. The RWD model accelerates from 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds, while the AWD version achieves this in just 5.3 seconds—a performance profile shared with the Ford Explorer, which is no surprise with their similar setup.

When it comes to electric range, the Ford Capri doesn't disappoint. The RWD variant goes an impressive 390 miles on a single charge, perfect for those who want an EV that keeps going. The AWD version, with its beefed-up battery for the dual-motor setup, still manages a solid 348 miles per charge. As for the Ford Explorer, it falls right in the middle with a respectable range of 374 miles before needing to recharge.

Step inside the Ford Capri and be greeted by a 14.6-inch touchscreen that adjusts seamlessly to your driving style, complemented by a stylish carbon fibre-look trim stitching across the dashboard. Plus, there's a wireless phone charger to keep your devices powered up without the hassle of cords. The interior is all about sleek modernity with plenty of headroom, making it a comfy ride for passengers of all sizes. And those seats? They're like your favourite armchair at home, offering Explorer-level comfort with the added perk of a built-in massage feature—because who doesn't love a little pampering on the road?

The Ford Capri doesn’t skimp on space, offering up to 572 liters of boot space and a convenient powered hands-free tailgate. It features five drive modes—Normal, ECO, Sport, Individual, and Traction (AWD only)—to cater to your driving needs anytime, anywhere. Individual Mode allows you to configure the settings to your driving style, such as the steering wheel position and accelerator response, so when you sit down in the Capri everything will be tailored to your driving style perfectly.

The iconic yellow color of the Capri is exclusive to this model and comes at no extra cost. It's also available in various other colors, including the vibrant blue which is named "Blue My Mind" a bit of play on words from Ford. Ford has said they decided to veer away from a retro design to ensure the car ages gracefully, though they haven't entirely abandoned the original Capri's legacy. For instance, the front and rear lights are connected by a gloss black trim piece, paying homage to the Mk3's quad headlamps

The new Ford Capri is now available for purchase, starting at £48,075 for the rear-wheel drive model and £56,175 for the all-wheel drive variant, with prices varying between two trim levels.
