BYD has unveiled the newest model in their European lineup, the Sealion 7. This launch marks an exciting expansion of BYD's presence in the European market.
BYD is expanding its electric vehicle lineup in Europe with the new Sealion 7, a mid-size SUV set to make waves in the competitive EV market. True to BYD’s ocean-inspired naming tradition—following models like the Dolphin, Seal, and the upcoming Seagull—the Sealion 7 combines a striking design with advanced EV technology. Already on sale in China since 2023, this much-anticipated model is now ready to bring BYD’s innovative electric solutions to European drivers.
The BYD Sealion 7 offers two battery options: a 71.8kWh pack providing a range of 341 miles, and an 80.6kWh pack with a range of 380 miles. The smaller battery is available with two single-motor configurations—one producing 227bhp and achieving 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds, and a more powerful 308bhp option with a 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds.
For those craving more power, a dual-motor version delivers an impressive 523bhp, with a 0-62mph acceleration time of 4.2 seconds, and BYD anticipates a 4.5-second 0-62mph time for the European model. This mid-size electric SUV isn’t just about efficiency; with a top speed of 133mph, it brings serious performance for those seeking a speedy, stylish EV.
The BYD Sealion 7 is equipped with iTAC (Intelligent Torque Adaptation Control), a system that fine-tunes torque levels to ensure precise handling and stability on the road. In addition, the Sealion 7 comes with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, designed to maximize safety and convenience for every journey. This combination of performance and intelligent safety features makes the Sealion 7 a well-rounded choice for those seeking a refined, tech-savvy electric SUV.
The BYD Sealion 7 offers a spacious interior with a comfortable, modern cabin, providing ample headroom and legroom thanks to its flat rear floor. Built on the advanced e-platform 3.0 shared by other BYD models, the Sealion 7 embraces a sleek, ocean-inspired design with a dual-layer console that enhances the contemporary feel. The dashboard is fitted with a 15.6” rotating centre screen, which is simple to use and offers access to all essential features.
Inside, premium materials like Nappa leather or vegan leather (depending on the trim) add a touch of luxury, and there are two interior colour options to complement the exterior.
Competing with models like the Skoda Enyaq Coupe and Peugeot E-3008, the BYD Sealion 7 is expected to go on sale later this month, with deliveries anticipated before the end of 2024. While official pricing has yet to be announced, it is expected that the Sealion 7 will be positioned around £50,000, given that the BYD Seal starts at just over £45,000. Built on the same e-Platform 3.0 architecture as the Seal, the Sealion 7 combines competitive pricing with BYD's advanced EV technology and premium design.
